Which elections are happening & When?

Leicestershire and Rutland are electing a new Police and Crime Commissioner on Thursday 2nd May 2024

What is a PCC? Why do they matter?

PCC's have powers to set priorities for the Police in our area. They also set the police budget (nearly £250 Million for 24-25), decide how much the Police element of our Council Tax bills is and appoint (and can fire) the Chief Constable

Vote Ian Sharpe for Police & Crime Commissioner

Ian Sharpe is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Leicestershire and Rutland's Police and Crime Commissioner. Ian has lived in the county for 28 years and has extensive experience as accountant and managing businesses.

Liberal Democrats believe that the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is a waste of money. The current Conservative PCC wastes millions of pounds on office costs and his "spin machine". The Police Authority that the PCC replaced got by with much lower administrative costs.

Lib Dems would cut the PCC office and publicity costs and put that money into front-line policing and crime prevention measures instead.

At last May's local elections the Lib Dems were the big winners and lead more Councils in Leicestershire and Rutland than Labour and the Conservatives. Here in Oadby and Wigston, the Lib Dems control the local Borough Council and have more County Councillors than the Conservatives. Labour have no councillors here at all.

Polling Stations are open 7am- 10pm on Thursday 2nd May. The Conservatives have changed the law so you need a photo ID to vote.

If you have a postal vote, you can return it to a Polling Station or the Council Offices on Thursday. Just follow the instructions as if you were going to post it and bring the sealed envelope to either:.

Note: the Conservatives have changed the law so you need to complete a Postal Vote Return Form if you return any completed postal vote pack(s) by hand.  You do not need the form to return the postal vote by post.

Postal vote packs must not:

  • Be left in the Council Offices' external postbox or unattended reception point; or
  • Be handled by political campaigners (subject to limited exceptions).

Postal vote packs will be rejected if they are not received and/or handled in the correct way. More details on the Oadby and Wigston Borough Council web site
