Oadby and Wigston Borough Councillors are seeking a legal challenge to the Labour Government's decision to greatly expand the Leicester - and absorb Oadby and Wigston.

Hinckley and Bosworth Council has already voted to look at a challenge after the government's own figures showed that very small minority of the nearly 7,000 replies to the consultation, backed the new plans.

Over 70% of respondents backed the “North/City/South” 3 council plan, which local Liberal Democrats believe is the “least worst” option. It is the fact that Labour has ignored this weight of opinion that has led to several local councils to look at legal options.

The published plans would see Leicester swallow up Oadby, Wigston, Great Glen, Glen Parva and even Blaby on the southern border of the city.

Liberal Democrats are also backing plans to bring back town councils to our area. For 80 years, two separate councils covered for Wigston and Oadby until 1974.

We believe that town councils for Oadby and Wigston and a new parish council for South Wigston will improve local decision-making in our area as it becomes part of the new larger Leicester City authority.
