Lib Dems slam land grab by Leicester's Labour Mayor

Local Liberal Democrats have attacked plans published by Labour-run Leicester City Council to take over large swathes of neighbouring towns and villages, including Oadby, Wigston and South Wigston.

Samia Haq, Liberal Democrat Leader of Oadby and Wigston, described the plans as, “Absolutely ridiculous - Leicester City’s expansion plan is nothing more than power grabbing exercise by the City Mayor.

"We vehemently disagree with this unwanted takeover.

Labour in Leicester have made a mess of the city and now they want to bring their troubles to Oadby and Wigston. We will fight all the way to keep our borough in the county."
